These developments are also part of the focus of te Research Academy of EAAE (the European Schools of Architecture, similar to ASCA). This is why a mapping and consolidation of experiences is highly needed. PhD programmes in Europe differ in focus and also in procedures and requirements. This project intends to make an overview of PhD programmes (similar to a literature study) in Europe. The project can also link and include universities in North America.

Faculty of Architecture, the most recent incarnation of a century-old tradition of excellence in architectural education at the Sint-Lucas School of Architecture. With locations in Brussels and Ghent. The programme’s uniqueness stems from the integration and interaction of design studios and technical, theoretical and explorative courses and research.
The new Department of Architecture of KU Leuven brings together researchers from the Faculty of Engineering Science and the Faculty of Architecture. On an international level, research is a stronghold in a number of key domains: architectural theory and history, conservation, urbanism and spatial planning. Research by design, sustainable architecture and design optimization are priority fields within the research portfolio. In each of these domains the department aims to lead the way by directing European projects, supporting international organizations and promoting the international exchange of researchers.
The project is part of endeavours undertaken within EAAE, the European Network of Schools of Architecture where Prof.Dr. J. Verbeke is responsible for the Research Academy.
You will be embedded in the unit focussing on research by design.
